You can download the number cards below or make your own.

Literacy Lesson – Reading

This week we are going to be learning all about the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Before you start Reading the story there are some words you need to understand the meaning of first. Talk to your adult about what these words mean.

As you read the story with your adult, see if you can spot these words.

The story is taken from www.twinkl.co.uk

The Three Billy Goats Guff

Questions:

  1. Why did the goats want to cross the bridge?
  2. Find two adjectives in the story that describe the troll
  3. When did the troll want to gobble up the three goats? Choose 1.
  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner

   4. What was the plan made by the goats?

    5. Do you think the toll was clever in the story? Explain your answer.

Topic Lesson – Design and Technology

Today you are going to be a designer. Your challenge is to create a bridge. It can be made out of anything you can think of – Lego, cardboard, straws. When you have designed your bridge test its strength by balancing a small book in the centre of your bridge.

Maths Lesson 2.

Click on the link below and follow the video - Lesson 1 - Compare length and height

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/

Now have a go at the activity:

If you do not have a printer, you can still have a go at the activities by talking about the answers with your adult and then challenging yourself to find items of different heights and lengths around the house.

Literacy Lesson 2 –skills

Today we are thinking about the Troll from the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Your task is to create a wanted poster for the Troll. You will need to include a picture, the characters name, the story he is from, what the Crime is and where he was last seen. You could even include a reward for finding the Troll. You can use the template below (the activity and image is taken from www.twinkl.co.uk) or you can design your own.

Topic – Drama

Today you are going to be a performer and a super storyteller. First, you need to make your puppets. They can be pictures you draw attached to sticks or straws or you could make masks and attach them to your teddies.

Image below is taken from www.twinkl.co.uk

Make a puppet for each of the characters in The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Once you have all of your puppets use them to retell the story.  You could even use your bridge from yesterday’s topic lesson as your stage.

Maths lesson 2 –

Click on the link below and follow the video - Lesson 2 - Measure length (1)

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/

Now have a go at the activity:

If you do not have a printer, you can still have a go at the activities by talking about the answers with your adult and then challenging yourself to measure the length of items in your house using your hands, feet, Lego blocks etc.

Literacy Lesson 3 - Skills

Time to plan out the story with a few changes!

You are going to create a story map of the Three Billy Goats Gruff but you are allowed to change the three goats to three different animals.

Think carefully about the animals you choose, they need to live in the countryside in England and still be afraid of the Troll!

In the example below I have changed the Three Billy Goats to the Three Mountain Hares.

Remember to draw simple pictures on your map and keep the same image for the same character, you can add words and phrases and don’t worry if it doesn’t fit on one page. Don’t make it too small as it will be hard to read back and you will need your plan to help you with your next lesson.
