Monday 27th April

Maths Activity: Monday Madness

Our Maths lesson today is active and fun.

Last week you completed the Motty Maths activity outside in your garden called ‘Chalk chop’! You needed a piece of chalk and you ‘Chopped’ the things in your garden in half by drawing a chalk line down the middle. Well this week you are going to do something very similar, but you are going to ‘Chop’ the objects into 3 equal pieces to create thirds. Good luck!

Literacy Activity: Questions

Continuing our topic ‘INTO THE WOODS’, this week our literacy will be based on the fairy tale ‘Little Red Riding Hood’

1. If you have the book of Little Red Riding Hood at home please read the story to yourself. If you don’t, please watch the video by clicking on the link below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W86K1jBJFI

2. Split a piece of paper into thirds. Draw a picture of the 3 main characters in the story at the top of each third, (Little Red Riding Hood, Grandma and the wolf) and write some questions that you would like to ask them if you could meet them.

3. Remember to punctuate your questions correctly with a capital letter at the start and a question mark at the end.

Here is an example:

Extension

You could discuss with a family member or write what you think some of the answers to the questions could be.

Bonus activity – you may be interested in watching the Northern Ballet perform the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Click on the link below.

Maths Activity

We are continuing our learning about thirds.

2. Pause the video when you are asked, so that you can do the activity.

If you have a printer at home, you can download the activity sheet by clicking on the link above and print it. If you don’t have a printer then it is just as easy to use a piece of paper and it is not a problem to skip some of the questions.

Alternatively, or as a deeper thinking task you could gather different objects from around the house or garden e.g. toys, pencils, stones and group them into thirds.

Literacy Activity:

1. Recap the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Try to retell the fairy tale to your grown up/sibling/pet using your own words.

2. Today you are going to plan your own version of Little Red Riding Hood by drawing pictures in a table as shown in the example below. The first thing you need to do is split your piece of paper into 8 equal parts.

3. However, when you are planning your story, you might choose to make some slight changes to the original story, for example you may decide to change some of the characters, e.g. a boy walks through the woods to their friend’s house or use a different woodland animal instead of a wolf.

Here is an example for Little Red Riding Hood:

Extension – add some noun phrases and interesting vocabulary around your drawings that you can use to help you write you own story tomorrow.

Non Core Activity – PSHE Mindfulness

1. Go outside and find somewhere comfy to sit. Take some nice deep breaths in and out.

2. Close your eyes, sit quietly and concentrate on listening to all the sounds that you can hear around you. Try to remember as many as you can.

3. Draw pictures/ write about of all of the different sounds you heard, these might include the wind blowing, cars passing, children playing, birds tweeting, leaves rustling and much more.
