Literacy

Literacy Reading Task – A famous basketball star

This week our learning will all be based around the sport basketball! Today we will be learning about an American Basketball star called Kobe Bryant. You may have heard about him in the news as he was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in January.

Have a go at reading about him and answering some questions about what you have read.

You can choose 1*, 2* or 3** to suit how confident a reader you are.

You could also do a little more research about him by using this Power Point.

Maths

This week we are going to be moving onto Summer Term Week 12 where you will be learning about symmetry.

Today's lesson is about lines of symmetry.

Please go to the White Rose website using the link below.

Sport Activities - to be completed each day throughout the week

As it is OBS Sports week you will find below 7 easy activities for you to try out, these can be done indoors and outdoors.

The idea is for you to beat your personal best throughout the week.

Each day have a go at attempting each activity and then try to beat your best scores.

Record your scores and see if you can improve each day!

Good luck!

Literacy

Collecting Information and Facts to use in a non-chronological information poster

This week you will be creating an information poster about a basketball star.

Today you have a choice on whether to continue to learn about and research Kobe Bryant or you could pick another basketball star of your choice.

Here are some suggestions of famous basketball stars.

  • Michael Jordan (you may have seen him in the movie Space Jam)
  • LeBron James
  • Lisa Leslie

You will need to know and write down facts to use in these three subheadings.

  • Family and Early Life (Think about when/where they were born, where they grew up and went to school).
  • Their Basketball career
  • Olympic achievements

You may also want to find some interesting/wow facts about the basketball stars or the game of basketball in general. You could use these in a ‘Did you know?’ bubble.

Enjoy some Calm Me time with Mrs Cocker

Activities

Today you are going to have some time to reflect on the past school year and consider the things you are looking forward in the future. Think carefully about both the summer holidays and when you return back to school in September, there are lots of things to look forward to!

When you think about the future, there might be something that gives you 'the butterflies' and makes you feel a little nervous, this is totally normal. Have a chat with your grown up about what you could do to try and make 'your butterflies' better.

Use the sheets below to help you record your ideas.

Don't forgot to take time everyday to relax and enjoy some Calm Me time and we look forward to being able to share it together in September.

Getting started on planning and creating your poster

Think carefully about the facts you collected yesterday and begin to plan how you are going to present your poster. Some of you will be able to use a computer or tablet to make your poster and others may prefer to use paper to get creative with your poster. Here is an example of a planner you could use. You can use notes on your plan but should include enough information to help you create your final poster tomorrow.

There is a checklist below of the key features that you could check your work against.
