MONDAY 13TH JULY - FRIDAY 17TH JULY

OBSports Week

This week, each year group has been allocated a sport and some famous athletes who play that sport to find out about. In Year 1 you will be learning about boxing!

Monday 13th July

Literacy

We will be looking at one of the greatest boxers of all time who name was Muhammed Ali. Today you will be a historian and will look at the Muhammed Ali’s life timeline, where you will find out lots of information about him.

Step 1: Print and cut out the timeline information. If you do not have a printer this is no problem as you can use the pictures below to read.

Step 2: Read the information, grown ups feel free to read as much as you need to because it is all about the children learning new information.

Step 3: Put them in the right order, just like a timeline and stick them down.

Top tip: stick pieces of paper together to make it longer.

If you do not have a printer or you would prefer to, you can just add dates and then the children can add a picture to remind them what happened. Or you could do a selection of both.

Please see the clips below to use when you are looking at some of the timeline clips.

Enjoy some Calm Me time with Mrs Cocker

Activities

Today you are going to have some time to reflect on the past school year and consider the things you are looking forward in the future. Think  carefully about both the summer holidays and when you return back to school in September, there are lots of things to look forward to!

When you think about the future, there might be something that gives you 'the butterflies' and makes you feel a little nervous, this is totally normal. Have a chat with your grown up about what you could do to try and make 'your butterflies' better.

Use the sheets below to help you record your ideas.

Don't forgot to take time everyday to relax and enjoy some Calm Me time and we look forward to being able to share it together in September.

Enjoy a story with Chris White - Our Patron of Reading

Thursday 16th July

Literacy

Today we are going to talk about being equal.

Click on the link below and listen to the book ‘I Am Enough’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp4GZ1I0pfY

Equal means everyone should have equal importance and the same rights.

Do you think everyone should be treated as equal/fairly? Can you explain why?

Mohammed Ali said he was not popular with everyone. He found during the 1960’s that in America, black people were not treated as equal citizens. They were not treated fairly and were treated differently (unkindly) because of their race. Muhammad Ali knew this wasn’t fair so he campaigned against this and spent his time fighting for racial equality.

Sadly, people are still not treated equally or fairly, so we need to try to change this.

Watch the video clip below to see how a young girl promotes equal lives and talks about ‘Black Lives Matter’. After clicking below scroll down and on the right hand side there is a clip called 'Young skater's viral dance on Black Lives Matter Plaza'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/53075349

Can you think of a way you can promote Black Lives Matter?

  • You could make a poster
  • Write a poem
  • Write a song

Or anything else you think would be a good idea.

Friday 17th July

Literacy

Today you will look at all the skills you will need to be a boxer.

What skills do you think Mohammed Ali needed to be a good boxer?

Step 1: You could draw a picture of Mohammed Ali or print a picture.

Step 2: Next add words around him to describe what skills or qualities you need to have in order to be a good boxer.

Watch the clips below:

These might give you some ideas of what qualities you might need!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrQ_H4WMfug

The first few minutes should give you an idea of the skills and qualities you need. You could also talk the equipment you can see. I would watch no more than 5 minutes.
