Sun, Sea and Beach Safety

Please read the safety information. Remember you can reread it as many times as you need to.

Top tip: You can get your child to read some parts, certain words or they can listen. Please challenge your child accordingly. But if they become stuck or need you to read it please do as it is just as important that they can recall or find the information.

  1. What can you do to protect your eyes?
  2. What should you drink lots of?
  3. Name two creatures you should be careful of around the sea?
  4. Who patrols beaches and what do they do?

If you want your child to write their ideas, use the attached sheet. Remind them to write in sentences.

Or: Your child can give you the answers by telling you them.

Top tip: Adults you will need to write numbers 1-12 on separate pieces of paper and hide the numbers in the garden or if it’s raining in a room, or around the house.

Step 1: Read the letter below

Dear year 1,

It is me Egbert here! I would like you do use your phonic skills today to do some reading. I know you all love finding out facts so today you are going to go on a fact hunt. You will have to find a number that is hidden before you can read it! For each number there is a wiggle word and it will tell you the meaning of the word. Today you are going to find out about different features of the seaside. Remember to:

  1. Use your sound buttons
  2. Remember the digraphs
  3. Keep getting quicker and don’t guess
  4. Split the words in half if they are big
  5. Ask your grown up to help you

Have fun

Love Egbert

Step 2: Search for a number, when you have found one take it to your grown up. Only find one!

Step 3: They will show you which wiggle word you can read. Look at the picture and read the text to find out what the seaside feature is.

Step 4: Go and find another number. Repeat until you have done all 12.

 Topic:

Today you are going to be a geographer! You are going to sort all the seaside features you have already learnt about today into two categories; human features and physical features.

Think back to our Castle topic when we looked at the difference between human and physical features, here is the definition we used.

Human Features

A place that comes from human ideas e.g. bridges, houses and parks.

Physical features

A place formed by nature e.g. valley, mountains and rivers.

Features of the Seaside

Human features

Physical features

You can fold a piece of paper in half and write human and physical features at the top. You can draw and write the features in the right side. Or you can print off the attachment below and use the pictures from earlier.

Challenge: To write a sentence to explain what the feature is, you could do this for a few or all of the features.
