Dear year 1,
It is me Egbert here! I would like you do use your phonic skills today to do some reading. I know you all love finding out facts so today you are going to go on a fact hunt. You will have to find a number that is hidden before you can read it! For each number there is a wiggle word and it will tell you the meaning of the word. Today you are going to find out about different features of the seaside. Remember to:
- Use your sound buttons
- Remember the digraphs
- Keep getting quicker and don’t guess
- Split the words in half if they are big
- Ask your grown up to help you
Have fun
Love Egbert
Step 2: Search for a number, when you have found one take it to your grown up. Only find one!
Step 3: They will show you which wiggle word you can read. Look at the picture and read the text to find out what the seaside feature is.
Step 4: Go and find another number. Repeat until you have done all 12.
Topic:
Today you are going to be a geographer! You are going to sort all the seaside features you have already learnt about today into two categories; human features and physical features.
Think back to our Castle topic when we looked at the difference between human and physical features, here is the definition we used.
Human Features |
A place that comes from human ideas e.g. bridges, houses and parks. |
Physical features |
A place formed by nature e.g. valley, mountains and rivers. |
Features of the Seaside
Human features |
Physical features |

You can fold a piece of paper in half and write human and physical features at the top. You can draw and write the features in the right side. Or you can print off the attachment below and use the pictures from earlier.
