Hello everyone!
This week we are going to be having an Art week in school. For part of this work each Year group has been given a different artist to find out about. The Year 5 artist is…
William Morris
Monday 6th July
Literacy
This is the second week of learning how to write persuasively to encourage young wizards to attend your school of wizardry!
Today, please continue the work you started last Friday and complete the activities on pages 12, 13 and 14.
On page 12 you will be using your weasel adjectives to fill in the gaps.
On page 13 use your weasel words to make some persuasive phrases.
Finally on page 14 you will need to find the bossy verbs and write some rhetorical questions. Remember bossy verbs are also called imperative verbs and they give you an instruction to do something e.g. bake, mix, slice.

Art
Continuing on from yesterday, today we will practise one of the techniques used by William Morris. I would like you to have a go at some observational drawings of nature. You may do this by collecting items from outdoors and drawing them from real life, and/or you may want to have a go at photographing some nature and drawing from photographs too/instead. The choice is yours. REMEMBER, to try to use a variety of different zoom techniques, try drawing close up and from a distant. A zoom finder may help with this, see below:

Activities
Last week we tried to find out more about our families. This week we are looking at our local community and where we live. Download the worksheet below. Can you make lists for each section? Write as many ideas as you can think of. You could ask your adult to help you.
Use the worksheet below and draw or label people or buildings in your community. The picture above may help you. If you haven't got a printer, you could design your own poster.
Watch the video clip for ideas. Can you now draw your ideal community or neighbourhood? What would you definitely have in your community?
You could also have a go at completing an A-Z community alphabet hunt.
E.g. A - Andy's Fish Bar
B - Bagnall Road
Enjoy watching a story

Top tip! - If you feel like you need a mirror but haven't got one try using the squares instead.
Art
Create your own painting. Today we will firstly have a go at the printing part of our art work. For this task, you will need a potato and some paint. If you don’t have these, you could do your own repeated pattern using felt tips or crayons instead. Choose one of the designs from the art work you created on Tuesday and cut out this pattern on your potato, you will be using a butter knife to do this, so make sure you have an adult to help you with this part. You will need to simplify your design, one of the zoomed in drawings may be best. When you have created your design on your potato, dip it in the paint and then continue to repeat this pattern. See images below as an example:

We would love you to colour this beautiful OBS picture drawn by Katie Frazer. This is a competition and we are hoping to pick our favourites for a display in school so take your time and try to make your colouring AMAZING - Good luck!
For those families who don't have a printer, you can either collect a copy with your report if you haven't collected it yet or we will give your child one on transition day.
We would love to see your art work when you come into school for your transition day so please bring it with you then if it is finished.
