Literacy

This week we are going to be using one of Pie Corbett's talk for writing resources for our home learning literacy tasks, we hope you will enjoy these activities.

The theme for our booklet is rainbows, rainbows everywhere!

A riddle:

What am I?

A bridge, a bow, an arch.

Shining bright in the sky.

From sunshine and rain am I.

Look up or you’ll miss me.

Did you know that the rainbow is a sign of hope? In this booklet we will be looking at all things rainbow! Where they come from and why we are seeing more today than ever before.

Your first activity is on page 4 where you will need to think about what you already know about rainbows

Now we would like you to watch this video which explains more about rainbows.

Writing challenge

Your last challenge for thie week is to write your own explantion text about something interesting! It needs to be about something that you know a lot about. Before we write we must think about what we are going to write about.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

• your favourite sport

• cats/dogs or any type of animal you know something about

• any hobby or anything you are interested in

• your favourite television programme

You could use this plan to help you from page 12 in your booklet.

Remember, when we write we always:

✓ Say each sentence out loud before we write it.

✓ Think about our sentence as we write it.

✓ Start each sentence with a capital letter.

✓ Finish each sentence with a full stop (or other correct punctuation).

✓ Reread what we have written regularly to check it works and is correct.

✓ Try to do our best handwriting

Good luck writing your own explanation text year 2, we can't wait to reading them!

Rainbow sprials

Use the twinkl template below to help you make your own rainbow spinner. If you don't have a printer try drawing around a plate and get a grown up to draw the spiral for you. Then colour in using rainbow colours. When you have finished, carefully cut along the line and hang it up using some string.
