Thursday 26th March

Activity 1: Write down as many ways that you can to make 38 using BIDMAS where possible. E.G (7x4) + 10

Activity 2: Write a 100-word story. You must use the sentence below somewhere in your story:

There was a sudden tapping on the window.

Activity 3: Research a famous mountain and write a fact file all about it. The fact file could include a picture, the height of the mountain, where it is located and any other interesting facts.

Optional Challenge: Name a kind of food for each letter of the alphabet. Bonus points for adding an adjective to create a noun phrase e.g. Mouth-watering Mangoes

Friday 27th March

Activity 1: Which one is the odd one out in each set below? Write as many reasons as you can to explain why.

a) 1, 12, 16, 23

b) 6, 10, 13, 15

c) 2, 7, 24, 29

d) 9, 12, 21, 27

e) 3, 14, 25, 28 

f) 1, 11, 19, 24

Activity 2: Write a description of an elephant to someone who has never seen one before. Remember to include as many descriptive techniques as you can.

Activity 3: Perform a news report for your family members on ‘Home-Schooling’. You don’t need to write it out but could make notes to help prompt you. You could get a family member to record it and you could watch it back and make improvements. Optional Challenge: Write 5 questions that have the answer…  Vegetables. Remember to punctuate your questions correctly.

Monday 30th March

Activity 1: Write as many facts as you can about the number 54 using your maths sense and as much of your mathematical knowledge as you can.

Activity 2: You need a reading book for this:

Open your book to page 3, countdown to line 5 and then along to the 3rd word. You must now quickly write a sentence using that word! Repeat this for page 8, line 9, word 6 and again for page 12, line 2, word 7.

Extra challenge can you now write a sentence using all three words?

Activity 3: Research a famous river and write a fact file all about it. The fact file could include a picture, the length of the river, where it is located and any other interesting facts.

Optional Challenge: Design a five-activity circuit training session that you and your household members could do every day…then have a go!

Tuesday 31st March

Activity 1: In April Flash Harry bought a saddle for £100. In May he sold it for £200. In June he was sorry he had sold it. So he bought it back for £300. In July he got tired of it. So he sold it for £400. Overall, did Flash Harry make or lose money? How much did he make or lose?

Activity 2: Rewrite the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three bears’ in five sentences. Each sentence must start differently and try to be creative!

Activity 3: Choose a film you have recently watched and create a review for it (in whichever form you want it to take; written or spoken). Think about how you can tell what the story is about without spoiling it for those who haven’t seen it. Explain about the characters and the actors who played the parts. Say what you thought of the film.

Optional Challenge: Write down 20 things a wizard would have under his hat
- Make it interesting e.g. the flash from a bolt of lightning

Wednesday 1st April

Activity 1: Ram divided 15 pennies among four small bags. He could then pay any sum of money from 1p to 15p, without opening any bag. How many pennies did Ram put in each bag?

Activity 2: Take each of the conjunctions from the list below and write them into a sentence. Try to create a range of sentence types (e.g. compound, complex)

And, But, So, Then, Because, When, If, After, While, As well as

Activity 3: Using everything you learnt about World War II, write a quiz with answers for a member of you household. Test them on it and see if they can get full marks.

Optional Challenge: Draw/paint a picture of what you can see outside from one of the windows in your house.

Thursday 2nd April

Activity 1: My Mum was 27 when I was born. 8 years ago she was twice as old as I shall be in 5 years’ time. How old am I now?

Activity 2: Find as many words as you can that could be used instead of …Enormous. Choose 3 of them and write them in sentences? Repeat with other words for excited, bright or hot.

Activity 3: You are allowed to invite (after lockdown) 3 famous people to your house for tea. Who would you invite and why?

Optional Challenge: Using the letters below make as many words as you can. What is the longest word you can make?         I   N   V   E   S   E   R   T   D

Friday 3rd April

Activity 1: Choc bars cost 26p each. Hot cross buns cost 18p each. Anil spent exactly £5 on a mixture of choc bars and hot cross buns. How many of each did he buy? Find all the possible solutions - there are at least 2 solutions to find!

Activity 2: Write sentences using different pieces of punctuation from the list below. Use all of the punctuation in as many sentences as you need to use them all.                                              “  ” ; , ··· (  ) ? · !

Activity 3: You are walking along a beach and you find a message in a bottle. Who is it from? Where has it come from? What does it say?

Optional Challenge: See how many words you can make from the letters given below. Then create a strange or interesting sentence using the words. Make sure you punctuate it!
