Wellbeing Wednesday

Relax and enjoy some Calm Me time with Mrs Cocker by watching the video below.

Wellbeing Activities

Once you are feeling energised, you need to have a think about what makes you special, such as your personal qualities, skills, hobbies, as well as considering things such as your likes and dislikes. Why don't you discuss this with your family to make sure you don't forget anything?

Once you've done this, have a go at the activity below, you could print out the sheets or design your own 'Self-Love Blocks' poster and write the answers to the questions.

Don't forget to take a couple of minutes a day to complete some Calm Me time.

Literacy Activity

Hello Year 1,

It is Egbert here I loved the stories that you sent to me, they were awesome!!!! I have enjoyed reading them at bedtime, sometimes with a hot chocolate. But I have now run out and of course you’ve guessed it, I would like your help. I am struggling to know which books to read from the school library so can you send me your recommendations so I know which ones to choose. Can you send me a book review? It doesn’t have to be a story book, it could be an information book, comic, cook book, magazine…whatever you like. I look forward to reading your book reviews.

Love from Egbert

It needs to include:

Title:

Author: if applicable

Type of genre: story/ information/ cook book etc

What it is about: Give a description for Egbert to make a choice.

What is good about it:

Rate it: By giving stars, out of 5 or 10

Add a picture if you want!

Challenge: Write a few sentences to say what your favourite part of the book, comic etc was and why.

Mrs Kelly's:

Title: The Day the Crayons Quit

Author: Drew Daywalt

Illustrator: Oliver Jeffers

Type of genre: story

What it is about: The story is about a pack of crayons of all different colours, who each write a letter to a little boy called Duncan. Each colour from the pack writes Duncan a letter because they want to tell him how they feel. Each colour talks about what types of pictures they colour some are sad because they are unused. Some are angry because they are having a dispute with another crayon. Some are tired because they colour that often!

What is good about it: This is one of my favourite books to read to class 4 because they always listen eagerly. I love to read this book because I try to do different accents for each of the crayons!

Rate it: 8/10

Challenge: My favourite part of the book is the ending because Duncan draws a fabulous picture but uses the colours uniquely. I love this part because Duncan has read all the letters and really listened to how they felt. This colourful picture makes all the crayons feel better!

Topic Activity Science

Hello year 1,

Mrs Kelly said you are all really good at watching and listening. Today if you are ready for it you will use your observational skills to watch, look and listen. I think you might find it is very interesting. I must dash I have just remembered it is time to put the bird feeders out and check that all the animals are ok.

From Percy the Park Keeper

Step 1: Click on the link below

https://www.wildlifeaid.org.uk/webcams/

Step 2: Scroll down to Watch our live webcams

Step 3: Choose one to watch

Step 4: You can watch them all, then choose your favourite animal and complete one of the tasks below.

Ideas:

  • You could write a diary about what they are doing
  • You could describe what you see and do a report. Why not tell someone else all about what you have seen!
  • Choose an animal and describe it
  • You could do some research about one of the animals using a book at home or the internet with the help of your grown-up
  • Draw, paint or collage a picture of your favourite animal and write a sentence to say why it is your favourite.

What will you choose to do?
