Tuesday: Gymnastics

Year 4 Gymnastics Club

A weekly club from 3.20 to 4.20pm on a Tuesday where we learn core skills needed to be successful in gymnastics. This is taught by Miss Stewart and ex-gymnast and a gymnastics coach and judge for many years.

Week 1:

We learnt how to do a forward roll safely and looked at a few other skills including combat rolls, circle rolls and dish/arch roles. You guessed it, it was rolling week! The children were amazing so talented and they all tried so hard. Next week I will try to remember the ipad so I can share some photos.

Week 2:

First we practiced our rolls from last week.

Then we worked on jumps and safe landings. The children were so successful they were doing full turn jumps from benches by the end of the session.

Week 3:

This week we focused on balance and worked on one foot stands, arabesques, W balances as well as straddle lever lifts. Everyone tried the 'blocks' and I was really impressed by the flexibility shown today. Photos to follow.

Week 4:

This week was Sports Acrobatics as this week has been the World Sports Acrobatics Championships and Great Britain won lots of medals. We worked as pairs having a base and a top. Success was had by all!
