Welcome to our first topic in year 1. We will fly into the world of super children and find out what their super powers are, we can't wait to see what makes them unique! Take a look each week to see what experiences we take part in...
This week we have enjoyed singing new songs, telling Jack how wonderful he is and how he helps us. We love learning about how to get along and show kindness to each other. But the highlight of our week was finding out about worms and making our very own class worm world. We can't wait to show you over the coming weeks what they do!
Ask your children what facts they have already found out about worms (pictures coming soon).
What a jam packed week we have had in our first full week of Year 1! The children started the week our 'Wow Day' where we went to Super hero training and made masks. We then began our formal lessons this week of phonics, maths, literacy and target practice readers.
In the afternoons we have been learning about science and thinking about the different parts of the human body and their job.
Well done class 3 and class 4!
Do you want to be a super hero? We can't wait to find out what makes you unique!
On our wow day we got creative, we made masks and cuffs. We engaged in super hero training to get fit and came up with our own wonder questions. We engaged in drama and learnt to project our voices, take a look at the videos and snaps below.
This week we have explored different books, had fun talking about what we want to be and even inventing our own worlds and classrooms! Take a look and see...
The most important thing you can do with your child is listen to them read and find the time to share books together. Below you can find the video links to all of the sounds covered in the rocket phonics books. As a guide, your child should be on yellow books in the Autumn term and green or orange books by the end of the summer term. Please also find a document with the common exception words below.

In year 1 we really embed the basics to become confident in all areas of maths. We are beginning to use Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) to ensure your child has speedy recall of essential maths facts. Your child should know them quickly as they will help them in all areas of maths. Please find the KIRFs for year 1 below with some helpful hints. In the Autumn term we are focussing on knowing our numbers to 10, their value and how to write them in numerals and words.
