Reading for Pleasure

Book Advent Calendar-

On December 1st our Book Advent Calendar begun. Each day throughout December, children have the opportunity to take home a book to keep from our school book advent calendar!

Our Book Fair-

The Scholastic book fair returned to Old Basford in November and it was a fantastic success! We made over £900 meaning that school has over £550 in book vouchers  to enhance our children's learning and promote a love a reading. A MASSIVE thank you to anybody that stopped by and bought a book!

Our Local Libraries-

Primary school children benefit greatly from attending their local library because it nurtures a lifelong love of reading and learning in a welcoming, community-focused space. Libraries offer a rich variety of books that spark curiosity, support schoolwork, and help children discover new interests. They also provide access to fun, educational activities—like story times, craft sessions, and reading challenges—that build literacy and creativity. Just as importantly, visiting the library helps children develop independence, responsibility, and a sense of belonging in their community.

World Book Day

Old Basford school celebrated World Book day on the 6th March. The children all enjoyed coming to school 'comfortable' or in some fantastic fancy dress outfits. The children had lots of fun sharing books, reading together and being creative. Our 'books and biscuits' parent event was very well attended and it was lovely seeing so many children enjoying this quality time together.

Parent reading volunteers

We have recently requested more parent support for any willing volunteers. Please speak to Mrs Priddy if you are able to offer some of your time!

Book fair

The book fair returned to Old Basford in November and raised over £100 for school in book vouchers! Thanks again to everyone who was able to support us by buying a book.
