OBS Basketball Team
This week's penultimate fixtures saw us play at the Claremont school against Fernwood School and Claremont School. The children did fantastically, losing one and winning one, wih a fantastic comeback. We have some work to do on our teamwork and passing, but we should be proud of how we played against some very solid teams! Well done all!
OBS Basketball Team
Another fantastic showing from our team on Thursday evening. We had a fantastic 25-24 victory against a youthful yet very talented South Wilford Primary, and a narrow loss of 12-8 to a very strong West Bridgford Junior School. Very impressed with the determination and teamwork of our team! This concludes our visits to South Wilford for our Basketball rallies. Next week, we're at Claremont for a double header!
OBS Basketball Team
Our basketball season continued last night with two more matches at South Wilford Primary School against two very talented sides, South Wilford and Windmill. All children who come to basketball training get to participate in matches and wear the OBS shirt! The children did us proud in representing OBS and even got a photo with Nottingham basketball royalty... Jimmy Jumpshot Smith! Who has been running these Nottingham basketball leagues for 43 years. OBS is one of the original teams who have been part of this and long may it continue!
Well done to all the chilldren who represented OBS and worked their hardest throughout!
Chess League Success
This afternoon, the chess team took part in their final league fixtures of the year, delivering a series of impressive performances across all boards. Competing against strong opposition, the team demonstrated excellent strategic thinking, resilience and teamwork throughout the matches. Their hard work and dedication over the course of the season paid off as they secured an outstanding 4th place finish in the overall league standings.
Coming 4th in such a competitive league is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the players’ commitment, preparation and passion for the game. Every member of the team contributed to this success, showing great sportsmanship and determination in each round. The progress made over the season has been clear to see and this result reflects just how far the team has come.
Tournament at Nottingham Forest Academy
This week, our fantastic football team took part in a tournament at the Nottingham Forest Academy. The pupils showed great teamwork, determination and skill throughout, and every player performed brilliantly. They were excellent ambassadors for the school and represented OBS with pride both on and off the pitch. There were also a great number of amazing goals scored!
OBS Basketball Team
Our OBS basketball team got their first bit of action playing two matches against South Wilford Primary School and West Bridgford Junior School. Leaving South Wilford School with one win (28-4) and one loss (14-10), to a very, very skilled team. A fantastic showing for their first time playing a match together and we look forward to our next matches against these school on Thursday 21st May at South Wilford School.
Football Club Plays at Edwalton
This week, the Old Basford football club travelled to Edwalton for a friendly. We were delighted to take two teams, and it was fantastic to see so many pupils representing the school in football for the very first time. Every player showed impressive resilience, excellent sportsmanship and represented Old Basford with pride.
A huge thank you to Edwalton for hosting us - we look forward to many more matches in the future!
RSE DAY SONG RECORDING
Class 8 had a brilliant time recording their RSE Day song with special visitors this week. Schools across Nottingham are taking part, and all the performances will be combined for a special track in June. The children loved using the professional headphones and experiencing a real recording session!
CHESS TEAM
This week, the Chess Team took part in the second round of league matches, and what a performance it was! Every player rose to the challenge, showing excellent strategic thinking, resilience and real determination throughout each game. The whole team played superbly, securing impressive wins across the board and earning a fantastic number of points for the school. Their teamwork, focus and sportsmanship were outstanding—well done!

GARDENING CLUB
Now that spring has officially arrived, the OBS Gardening Club is up and running once again. During our first session, the children were busy planting around the school grounds, carefully preparing the beds and adding new flowers to brighten our outdoor spaces. They showed great enthusiasm and teamwork, and are excited to continue their work next week.
CHAMPIONS!
This week, the OBS boys' football team completed an incredible season, finishing as undefeated champions. Well done to the whole team for your hard work and resilience. We look forward to seeing you shine in the Champions League!
Safer Internet Day - 10.02.26
This week we have been celebrating Safer Internet Day throughout the school in assemblies and during learning in classes. This year's theme focused on the risks and benefits of using AI. With AI becoming an increasingly large part of our everyday lives, it is important for our pupils to understand how to use it safely and responsibly.
The flyer below shares some tips for parents as their children begin to explore AI. For a pdf version with embedded links was sent out to all parents on Tuesday.

Music Assembly
Today we had an exciting music assembly, and the children were absolutely thrilled! Will from Front Row Music joined us and taught the children about chords and melody. They even showcased their best singing voices—it was fantastic to see their enthusiasm!
Children now have the opportunity to express their interest in music lessons with Front Row. All the details are in the attached PDF letter, including their email for any questions.

Reading Champions- Autumn Term
Our school-wide scheme 'Reading Champions' has started again with the aim of promoting a love of reading for all year groups. 6 children from each KS2 class are paired up with 6 children from KS1 and meet once a week to read together. Our older children are fantastic role models and make a huge difference in gaining enjoyment from reading.

What an incredible start to the season for the OBS chess team! In their first set of league matches, every player represented the school with pride and determination. Each team member scored points to drive the team forward, and there were some truly unforgettable victories along the way. Huge congratulations to the whole team – keep up the amazing work!

The OBS football team continued their unbeaten run today, securing two more league victories against strong opposition. The team displayed resilience, grit, and determination—particularly in their final match of the night, where they battled to a hard-fought 4–3 win.

Today, we paused to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve for our freedom. At Old Basford, our pupils and staff came together for a 2-minute silence to reflect on the importance of peace and gratitude.
Year 5/6 Football Tournament - 10.11.25
This afternoon, the OBS football team participated in their first tournament of the year. The team made the school proud, with every player contributing to their success. They won 4 out of 5 games, scoring numerous goals and conceding only one throughout the afternoon. Well done!
