Supporting your child at home

Reading

The most important thing you can do with your child is listen to them read and find the time to share books together. Below you can find the video links to all of the sounds covered in the rocket phonics books. As a guide, your child should be on pink books in the Autumn term and red in the spring term and yellow by the end of the summer term. Please also find a document with the common exception words below.

Week 2

The children continued their busy start to the new half term this week with our visit to White Post Farm. They had an amazing day exploring the grounds and seeing so many different animals; from woolly pigs and horned cows to eagles and even a huge albino boa constrictor! The children learnt about springtime on the farm and the new animals that appear during the season. They even got to stroke a cute, little baby goat. The day was topped off with a tractor ride around the farm and a walk around the fields to feed some more of the animals. It was a very exciting day, which was all too much for some on the bus ride home!

Week 1

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful half term. The children have been raring to go as we start our final half term of the year. This week, our whole school Shakespeare Week has been taking place and all of our learning has been based around the play, Macbeth. The children have explored the story through drama, some writing and in Drawing Club. They have been extra brave by performing the roles of Macbeth and the witches in front of the whole class (there are some fantastic cackles in F2!) and even learnt small extracts from the play itself. We finished the week creating ingredients for our own evil witch's potion – there were some disgusting concoctions!

Week 6

F2 have finished this half term on a high! We've had Diversity Day, where the children were able to share about their families and cultures with the class (as well as a little fashion show!). The day was topped off with our whole school parade and the children showed off their lovely crowns and flags and sang the song Together with the rest of the school. The children have also rounded off their learning about animals with a scavenger hunt for endangered animals in the garden.

We hope you all have a wonderful break and we'll see you all in a week!

Week 5

Another week down! The children have had great fun this week and we've had plenty for parents too, with Stay and Read and Sports Day. The children have discovered Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in Drawing Club, created some superb shape artwork in maths and shared how they take care of their pets at home. Some children even built a child-sized nest in the garden! They finished the week on a high with performances to make everyone proud at Sports Day.

Week 4

It's been another busy week in Foundation, despite the bank holiday. The children have been working together to build some cosy tents in the camping area during Adventure Time and we've been working hard in maths, learning all about shapes. The children have done a great job using their knowledge to create different pictures using a selection of shapes – we saw some fantastic teamwork during our lessons too!

Week 3

This week we have been learning all about what animals eat. The children have been exploring the difference between carnivores, omnivores and herbivores and finding out about the diets of different animals. We have also been learning how to take away in maths and have been strutting our funkiest dance moves to go along with 'Big Bear Funk'. Class 2's performance even descended into a conga line!

Week 2

It has been another busy week in Foundation. This week we have been looking at animal habitats and which animals might live there. In the garden, we have also been exploring different types of animal dens and even creating some of our own! On Tuesday, we had our Parents' Reading Workshop – it was great to see so many join us to learn about how we learn to blend with the children and spend time enjoying some of our favourite stories.

Week 1

Welcome back! It has been wonderful to welcome everybody back to school and settle into our routines once again. This week we have started our new topic - Animals Around the World. The children have been very excited to talk about the different animals they know! They have been sorting animals into different groups and been busy learning numbers beyond 10!

Week 3

This week we have loved learning all about FOSSILS! We explored what a fossil might feel like, what it would feel like to find a fossil and the job you can do to work with fossils. We then created our own fossil pictures and made them textured by taking rubbing from our environment. The children were very creative in the different surfaces they used - from Lego to the bark on the trees!

Week 2- World Book Day

It was great to celebrate World Book Day this week and have our grown-ups come in and share the day with us. We love reading and listening to stories in F2 and it was a lovely opportunity to share the stories we enjoy with our friends and teachers. We had such a busy day, we showed off our outfits and shared the books we brought in, we read with our Amigos and did a draw along with them! Then we designed a book voucher and had a story at the end of the day!

Thank you to everyone who came along and made the day so special!

Week 1 -Welcome Back!

This week it has been lovely to welcome the children back into school and settle into our daily routines. We have launched our new topic this week- Dinosaurs! The children have been very keen to engage with the topic, share what they know and ask questions to help them learn more. The children have taken part in activities inside and outside to help them explore our 'Dinosaurs' topic.

Week 5- Drawing Club Workshop

A big thank you to all the adults who came to our Drawing Club workshop on Thursday. Drawing Club is a key part of getting children engaged with writing and storytelling, and helping them apply their knowledge of phonics to writing in a meaningful way. The children really enjoyed sharing their love of Drawing Club with you and hopefully, you will be able to replicate some parts of it at home. All the staff love doing Drawing Club with the children and listening to their amazing ideas every week.

Week 4: Exploring Space!

This week the children really loved exploring our Space topic inside and outside during Adventure Time. Outside, in the sand area we made moons and used different tools to add texture to the surface and balls to imprint craters. Inside, we have started making some paper mache planets together. We discussed what planets we were going to make and how the paper mache works. We are excited to decorate the planets next week!

Spring 1 Week 4 Weekly Learning

Week 3: Drawing Club- The Pink Panther

This week we have really enjoyed exploring an episode of The Pink Panther and coming up with our own version of him, a car for him and a new friend. The children found the cartoon funny and have been using the vocabulary we learnt to describe the characters in the show! It has been great to see them share their ideas and really engaged with the content of the cartoon!

Spring 1 Week 3 Weekly Learning

Week 2: Building Everywhere!

This week the children have made some amazing models within provision. They have made models of all different sizes utilising all the materials we have inside and out! It has been lovely to hear them talk about what they have made, see them work together and play with the finished product!

Spring 1 Week 2 Weekly Learning

Week 1: Let it Snow!

This week we have had some very cold weather to welcome us back to school. We have loved exploring the ice and snow in the garden, transporting it, collecting and making things with it. We even conducted an experiment with different sand moulds to see if we could make our own ice into different shapes. We found the bigger the mould, and more water we used, the less ice was made.

This week we have welcomed back Mrs Pickup to Class 2 and the children have done a great job of helping her settle into class.

We finished the term baking gingerbread, smelling all the ingredients and watching as the mixture changed as we added the ingredients to the bowl. Of course, the best part was watching The Gingerbread man story on BBC Musical Storyland and eating the gingerbread!

Week 6 W/B 8th December

We performed our Christmas Sing-a Long this week and all the staff were really PROUD of all the children who took part. It was lovely to see them in their costumes and doing their best to perform in front of an audience.

Thank you to all the grown-ups that came and sang with us, bought photos and supported the children at home.

We also had Christmas Jumper Day and had a delicious Christmas Dinner. We enjoyed singing our Christmas Cracker and Christmas Turkey song when we were having our dinner!
