Year 3

Meet the Team

2025-2026

Welcome to Year 3!
We’re so excited to begin a new school year full of learning, laughter, and adventure. This year, we have lots of fun activities planned—from creative projects to new topics that will spark curiosity and imagination.

Each week, we’ll be uploading updates to this page so you can see the fantastic learning taking place in our classrooms. Be sure to check back regularly to celebrate all the brilliant work our Year 3 learners are doing!

We’re Here for You
We’re always here to support your children and you. If you ever have any worries, questions, or just want to chat, we’re available at the end of the school day. Please don’t hesitate to come and speak with us—we’re happy to help.

PE Days:
Just a reminder—our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please come to school in your PE kit on those days, ready to get active and have fun!

Homework

Each week, we would like you to aim to complete the following:

Spelling - practise the list given out on Mondays.

Reading - at least three times a week, signed in diaries

Times tables - regular practise on Times Tables Rockstars to prepare us for our maths lessons.

Creative homework based around our topics will be set later on each term once the children have been able to embed enough knowledge. Look out for this in our weekly posts.

Reading

Y3 children will all have a colour banded reading book which is appropriate for their level as well as a reading for pleasure book.  Please support us by reading and discussing their books at home.  There is an additional sheet stuck in diaries explaining the goals and how to help your child.

Spellings

Each week the children will be given ten spellings, engaging in daily practice using a range of fun and helpful activities. You can support them to practice their weekly spellings as well as the common exception words that you will find stuck in their diaries.

Practising their spellings little and often, making it fun is key to helping your children to become confident and successful spellers.

As a team, we can help the children to become super spellers.

Maths

Each child has a  Times Table Rock Star account and login details are stuck in diaries.  This can be accessed from home so please encourage your child to have fun and practise their times tables.  Inside diaries there is a copy of the times tables up to 12x and  a 'key instant recall facts' (KIRFs).  Each half term, a KIRF will be focussed on.  Autumn 1's focus is number facts to 50.

Meet the Teacher

If you were unable to make it to our Meet the Teacher session, please find the information in the slides below.

Autumn Term 2025

Our first topic in Year 3 is 'Stone Age to Iron Age'. We will be learning all about the changes in Britain between the early Stone Age (the Palaeolithic Era) and the Iron Age (just before the start of Roman Britain). We will explore the different settlements where humans lived (including Skara Brae), their diet and the development of farming as well as technological advances and the dawn of religion. Our English will focus around Stone Age themed stories such as Stone Age Boy and non-fiction writing about Stonehenge. To round it all off, we'll be creating our own Stone Age dwellings in DT towards the end of the term.

Our knowledge organiser below has more details of our topic.

What a Fantastic First Week! WC 08.09.2025
We’ve had a wonderful start to Year 3 and the children have really impressed us with their enthusiasm, kindness, and curiosity. It’s been such a joy getting to know each of them!

We’ve already jumped into our first topic—Stone Age to Iron Age—and had lots of fun creating a timeline to help us understand this fascinating period in history. The children showed great teamwork and interest as they explored how life changed over time.

We also enjoyed our first dance session with Miss Talia, which was full of energy and smiles.  We’ve started reading Toby and the Ice Giants, and the children are already hooked! Plus, we had our very first Spanish lesson, where we began learning some basic greetings and phrases.

It’s been a busy and brilliant week, and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!
