  • BIKEABILITY

    Tue 23 Apr 2024

Well done to all the children who have taken part in the Bikeability sessions over the last couple of weeks and completed Level 1 and Level 2. It has been great to see children's confidence grow, especially whilst riding on the roads around our community. A big thank you to the Bikeability team, who enabled some of our Year 5 children to have this great opportunity.

  • New Football Kit

Fri 19 Apr 2024 Miss Marrow

Our girls football team looked and played fantastic this week in their BRAND NEW kits funded by the Premier League Primary Stars programme. The new kit was a big hit with the team, who all felt a sense of pride when they put it on.

The girls represented OBS brilliantly when playing against Carrington this week.

  • Recognition Time - 19.4.24

    Fri 19 Apr 2024

What a start to the Summer Term!  So many children being recognised within the first week back.  The majority of the children were chosen by our lunchtime Play Team for being kind, helpful and showing respect within the hall or outside during OPAL play - well done!

When I asked the children what the best bits of school were, they shared:

    - football with OPAL (but not the wellies!)

    - lunchtimes

    - OPAL

    - Scooters at lunchtimes

    - Science

    - making 3D models in computing

    - History - the Mayans

With their magic wands and no money worries they would like:

    - more running

    - swings and slides

    - more OPAL

    - to climb trees

    - a hot tub!

    - more school/class pets

    - more football

    - more computing

When asked 'what can I do to make school better?' they shared:

    - longer lunchtimes

    - no wellies with football

    - KS2 having longer on the wheelies (bikes/scooters)

    - bring back Infinity

    - More OPAL

  • Welcome Back

    Mon 15 Apr 2024

Welcome back to the Summer Term.  I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed the improving weather.  The summer term is always busy, so please make sure you have added the key dates to your diary; these were sent out before the holidays but can be found in the 'Headteacher letters' section of the website.

  • Eid Mubarak

    Thu 28 Mar 2024

Because we are not at school for the festival of Eid, the staff at Old Basford would like to wish our families Eid Mubarak during this holiday break.

We have been focusing on Ramadan over the past weeks with an assembly, decorations in school and with a designated area in school for prayer.

  • Recognition Time

    Thu 28 Mar 2024

A very busy recognition time this week, I owed the pupils 3 weeks worth!  So many lovely reasons showing how our OBS pupils go above and beyond for each other.

  • Red Nose Day 2024

    Tue 19 Mar 2024

Thank you for your donations to Red Nose Day this year. We are proud to have raised £250.83 towards this fantastic cause!

An extra special thank you to our amazing school council who organised the events. As a collective, they decided on the activities for the day, advertised the event and ensured all ran smoothly on the day. Well done for your teamwork and enthusiasm - you have made a big difference and we are all proud of you.

  • SEND Coffee Morning

Fri 15 Mar 2024 Naomi Heywood

It was so lovely to meet together on Friday and share coffee, cakes and talk about life as a parent of a child with additional needs. Lots of ideas were shared about both the brilliant and challenging elements of school and home working together to support children.

Below are a sample of the ideas shared:

What do school do well to help your child?

Teachers go the extra mile to understand my child and what they need.

    Helping him and giving support.

Meeting my child’s needs and being accepting of him.

Asking me what they can do to help.

Making him feel comfortable and providing a safe space when needed.

Introducing the Willow to help their learning.

    Asking if WE are ok

    Approachable staff.

Online homework – Nessy and TTRS.

What else could we be doing?

Maybe give homework to SEN children as they may feel left out and not included.

More times like this for parent support with more professionals in school.

Create a club/playdate for children with similar needs.

    More parental involvement in school.

More opportunities to meet with staff to discuss concerns.

    Online free reading apps/websites.

    Sleep support.

We hope to host another event in the summer term. Watch this space!
