  • Year 6 QUAD Athletics Competition

Thu 28 Sep 2023 Miss Marrow

Wow! What a great afternoon of sporting success!

12 talented athletes attended this afternoon's QUAD athletics competition at Harvey Hadden Sports Village. We came SECOND out of 10 teams, which is absolutely fantastic! After a shaky start and a baton drop the team pulled together, supported each other and showcased their talent- earning us a well-deserved second place. We have made it through to the next round in the competition, hoping to maintain the success of last year.

The children did OBS proud not only in their sporting accomplishments but with their behaviour too. The children followed our PROUD rules by helping (without even being asked) to set out the track for the organisers and clear away the tracks after each event. The athletics team clapped for each team during the placings, congratulated the winning team and then thanked the organisers.

You are all fantastic sporting role models.

  • MacMillan Coffee Morning

    Thu 28 Sep 2023

Thank you to everyone who brought in donations for our cake sale . It was lovely to see lots of you in the hall having a hot drink, slice of cake and a good chat. The children also enjoyed having a treat at playtime. Together we raised  £143 for MacMillan.

  • GOLDEN OPAL PLAY AWARDS

Wed 27 Sep 2023 JAYNE THOMAS

Today we have introduced two new awards for our Opal Play. We have the Golden Welly Award for Good Play and the Golden Broom Award for Good Tidying. Every week the Play Team will make nominations for us to select the winner in assembly next week. The winners can keep their awards in their classes for the whole week and then will present their award to the next winner in the following week's assembly. Have a look aren't they great? Thank you Miss Priddle for making them!

  • Recognition Time - 22.9.23

    Fri 22 Sep 2023

Wow, it was a bust one today!  So many children being recognised by adults for going above and beyond with our PROUD rules.  It was fantastic to hear about children helping others, keeping school clean and tidy and being 'Loud and Proud' in all they do - well done!

We spoke about the positives of being back at school, they included:

    - fun lessons

    - new topics

    - OPAL play

I asked the children what I could do to make school better and the children struggled to think of ideas, so we focused on enhancing OPAL play:

    - a climbing frame

    - more big cardboard to build models

    - more 'stuff' to build with

  • Recognition Time - 15.9.23

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

Our first pupil on the recognition board for 2023 - 2024 was so proud and excited to join me today for juice and a biscuit.  It was lovely having time together, celebrating his successes and talking about how the first two weeks of school have been.

I look forward to seeing more OBS pupils being recognised for going above and beyond each week; I wonder who it will be next week?

  • OPAL PLAY IS UNDERWAY!

Thu 07 Sep 2023 JAYNE THOMAS

We are so pleased to say that yesterday we began our OPAL play journey and it has been a great success so far! Every Wednesday we will have an assembly to talk through with the children about what is new and what 'good play' will look like, thinking about the benefits and also the risks of some play. Yesterday we started gently by introducing the 'messy kitchen' as well as dressing up, the role play and the performance areas. As our journey progresses we will introduce more and more, so please see our OPAL play website page for updates. Look at the photos to see the kinds of fun we are having!

  • Day 3 of the new term

Wed 06 Sep 2023 Mrs Duffin

I am a very happy Headteacher and I am so incredibly proud of all the children and how they have come back to school to start the new year.  However, an even bigger well done must go to our new Foundation 2 pupils, who have embraced primary school, enjoyed making friends and following our PROUD rules, what a fantastic achievement.

Tomorrow (Thursday 7th) we will return to our 'open door' start to the day, where pupils in Year 1 - Year 6 say goodbye to their grown ups and walk into school alone (no going onto the playground first).  Foundation 2 parents are still able to go to the classroom doors for drop off. The gate will open at 8:40 and all pupils must be in school by 8:50 when the gates close.

  • Welcome Back

    Fri 01 Sep 2023

I would like to welcome you all back to the 2023 - 2024 academic year.  As always we have lots of exciting opportunities for all children during the year and know they will all enjoy themselves.

As shared before the summer break, we are moving our communication system to Arbor, so until all parents are set up with accounts, please use this page of the website (Latest News) and our Facebook page for communication about the first week.

On Monday, we welcome our new Foundation2 pupils to Old Basford School for the very first time; when the gates open at 8:40, parents are invited to head straight to the classroom with their child to meet the teacher and settle in.

All other year groups (Year 1 - Year 6) are invited onto the playground to have a chance to see friends and meet their new teachers, parents are welcome to join them on the playground until 8:50.

I hope you have had a good summer break, please remember I am available if you need a chat or to update me on anything.

Don't forget the 'Meet the Teacher' events happening next week:

    Tuesday 5th

2:45 - Year 1 (Mrs Priddy and Mrs Baguley)

3:40 - Year 2 (Mrs Richards and Mrs Smythe (Miss Crosby))

    Wednesday 6th

2:45 - Year 3 (Mrs Kelly, Mrs Whitehead and Mrs Evans)

3:40 - Year 4  (Miss Booth, Mrs Tindsley and Mrs Black)

    Thursday 7th

    See you Monday,

    Mrs Duffin
