  • Eid Mubarak

    Thu 28 Mar 2024

Because we are not at school for the festival of Eid, the staff at Old Basford would like to wish our families Eid Mubarak during this holiday break.

We have been focusing on Ramadan over the past weeks with an assembly, decorations in school and with a designated area in school for prayer.

  • Recognition Time

    Thu 28 Mar 2024

A very busy recognition time this week, I owed the pupils 3 weeks worth!  So many lovely reasons showing how our OBS pupils go above and beyond for each other.

  • Red Nose Day 2024

    Tue 19 Mar 2024

Thank you for your donations to Red Nose Day this year. We are proud to have raised £250.83 towards this fantastic cause!

An extra special thank you to our amazing school council who organised the events. As a collective, they decided on the activities for the day, advertised the event and ensured all ran smoothly on the day. Well done for your teamwork and enthusiasm - you have made a big difference and we are all proud of you.

  • SEND Coffee Morning

Fri 15 Mar 2024 Naomi Heywood

It was so lovely to meet together on Friday and share coffee, cakes and talk about life as a parent of a child with additional needs. Lots of ideas were shared about both the brilliant and challenging elements of school and home working together to support children.

Below are a sample of the ideas shared:

What do school do well to help your child?

Teachers go the extra mile to understand my child and what they need.

    Helping him and giving support.

Meeting my child’s needs and being accepting of him.

Asking me what they can do to help.

Making him feel comfortable and providing a safe space when needed.

Introducing the Willow to help their learning.

    Asking if WE are ok

    Approachable staff.

Online homework – Nessy and TTRS.

What else could we be doing?

Maybe give homework to SEN children as they may feel left out and not included.

More times like this for parent support with more professionals in school.

Create a club/playdate for children with similar needs.

    More parental involvement in school.

More opportunities to meet with staff to discuss concerns.

    Online free reading apps/websites.

    Sleep support.

We hope to host another event in the summer term. Watch this space!

  • Ramadan Mubarak

    Sun 10 Mar 2024

Ramadan Mubarak to all of our Muslim families, we talked about Ramadan in assembly on Friday and what it means to Muslim people. We also had some Year 6 children share their knowledge of Ramadan and helped us try to say the 5 pillars of Islam in Arabic.

  • Girls' Football

Wed 06 Mar 2024 Miss Stewart

Last night our girls' football team had their first fixtures of the year. I was really proud of them and delighted to have so much support from parents. We dominated our first match winning 2 -0. Then the second match was far more equal. It ended with us loosing 1- 0 but could have gone either way. A great effort from all especially as for some it was their first ever match.

  • More Taekwondo Sporting Success

Fri 01 Mar 2024 Miss Marrow

The fantastic athlete, Alayah Hudson (year 1), has had more success in her field of Taekwondo. She recently competed in a match in Barnsley and won!! She walked away with a trophy and brought it into school to show us. Alayah is a shining example of how hard work pays off and is a fantastic role model for the rest of her class mates.
