  • OBS ARE PROUD SUPPORTING THE MARCUS RASHFORD CAMPAIGN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MORRISONS

    Mon 26 Oct 2020

I am delighted to announce that this week OBS are working in partnership with Morrisons Bullwell to support the Marcus Rashford Campaign to ensure pupils who need it, have access to food during the school holidays!

Each day this week Morrisons will be delivering 30 pupil lunches that are freshly made each day consisting of: sandwiches, a piece of fruit, a mini bag of cookie, crisps, a cake, a bottle of water and a cartoon of juice!

This means over the week OBS will be able to support each of our 140+ children, who normally receive a free school meal during term time, during the October Half Term holiday too!

Thank you so much to the Community Leaders at Morrisons Bullwell, you are ABSOLUTE STARS!

  • NATIONAL AWARD FOR OBS

    Thu 15 Oct 2020

Old Basford School have today been presented with our National Award for Inclusivity! The timing could not have been more perfect as this week in school all classes have had a Black History enrichment week, on top of our normal, 'diversity promoting' curriculum coverage! And to top it off beautifully … TODAY was our OBS 'SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD' day and the entire school came in RED to celebrate and acknowledge this!

The panel from the Accord Inclusivity Award stated in their presentation that:

(The Revd) Stephen Terry, Chair of the Accord Coalition

Many congratulations to all at Old Basford School on being one of the winners of our Inclusivity Awards for 2020.

The Judges noted the way in which your RE curriculum is geared towards learning about and celebrating the different religious and cultural backgrounds in our midst. The range of off-site visits and assemblies, featuring speakers from a wide range of traditions and beliefs, as well as your participation in such events as Black History Month, is also most impressive.

Your work is taking forward the vital work of accepting difference and diversity, which in turn will help to build an open, inclusive and tolerant society in which we can all flourish in safety.

You are setting a great example to us all - well done!

  • WEAR SOMETHING RED DAY

Thu 15 Oct 2020 MRS THOMAS
Thank you to everyone who wore something red today to show their support for the 'Show racism the red card' campaign. The children looked lovely in red for a change. The timimg of the national event was perfect and nicely coincided with OBS' Black History Week. The children have been so engaged this week and have thorougly enjoyed learning about important Black figures from the UK and the rest of the world who ordinarily get overlooked. We need to make sure that we keep learning about Black history throughout our curriculum throughout the year. Take a look at your child's class page to find out about some of things that they have been learning this week. What a fabulous end to a fabulous week!
