  • YEAR 5 STAR GAZING EVENING

Thu 22 Feb 2024 Miss McCulloch

Last night was a very exciting one at OBS! Year 5 children were invited back to school to take part in a 'STAR GAZING EVENING' to support their learning about Earth and Space.

The evening was ran by Laurel Armstrong who is the Science Lead for Nottingham Schools Trust. Things kicked off with an interactive tour of the solar system then Laurel used her planetarium to give the children a fascinating tour of the night sky. They learnt all about the different constellations we can see from planet Earth. Using a special app, the children then went outside to see how many stars they could spot. Sadly, it was a cloudy night but we did manage to spot a few stars and even the planet Jupiter was visible!

Back inside, the children took part in various fun activities to do with Earth and Space such as training to be an astronaut, using telescopes and building rockets. The evening finished with hot chocolate and biscuits!

Sat 10 Feb 2024 Miss Priddle

Punctuality Rewards - Spring 2.  Please see details below.

  • Punctuality Awards

Fri 09 Feb 2024 Miss Priddle

Mrs Spilsbury and myself have been delighted this afternoon to award one child from each class (randomly selected from a wheel of names) with a prize and treat time for good punctuality this half term.

We will be running this reward system again after the half term break but with an added class treat at the end of term.  More details will follow in the Attendance Newsletter.

Well done to the 14 children selected for the treat time.

An amazing 180 children had their name in the draw 25 times - the maximum amount.  They will all be receiving a small prize after the half term break.  Let's see if we can beat that total next half term!

  • Year 6 This Girl Can

Wed 07 Feb 2024 Miss Marrow

Yesterday 8, beautifully behaved girls, attended Harvey Hadden for the This Girl Can Sports festival. The festival focused on promoting fun and enjoyment on girls within sport and fostering positive attitudes towards physical activity. The girls took part in a mass warm up with the other schools, followed by a rotation of different sports including dodgeball, relay races and street dance blast. The girls had a fabulous time!

  • Recognition Time - 2.2.24

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

Another busy Friday morning Recognition Time where we celebrated the successes shown within the week.  Pupils have been recognised for:

    - improving test score

    - being a great friend

    - helping younger children

    - being great lunchtime helpers

The children have suggested that they would like to have more opportunities for challenges and rewards, possibly link to behaviour and positive attitudes; something for the SLT to think about.

On Thursday, Miss Dobson had the pleasure of taking 6 very excited year 3's to an athletics festival at Harvey Hadden Sports Village. The children had the opportunity to try out different athletics events like relay races, hurdles and javelin. The children had the BEST time and are looking forward to having more opportunities to compete and try out new events.
