Art Attack!
This week we have been inspired by our Space topic and have created models, art and games all around it! We really enjoyed creating planets with shaving foam and paint, we have made rockets out of Lego and more space drawings with the chalk. The children have been really creative in utilising all the different materials in the unit to explore space and the planets.

Exploration!
This week we have been exploring different materials in our learning. On Monday we came in to find a tuff tray had frozen over! We had to break the ice to help the stuck ducks get out! Once the ice was broken we then added in powder paint to see how the colours changed as they mixed together and decided in the end the planet looked like Mars. Then the children explored different ways of breaking the ice into smaller pieces with different tools.
We have also been creating art this week with chalk on dark paper to represent the planets and stars, learning how to blend the chalk to create different effects.

Snow!
This week we have been very excited to have snow in the garden and have the opportunity to play with it! When the fresh snow fell in the garden we picked it up, dug it up and moved it around. We build a small snowman and enjoyed investigating what happened to the snow when we mixed it with water, leaves and mud! When the ice came we then tried to use different strategies to melt it and see which one made the ice let the quickest!

A Busy Week of Events
This week we have had lots to think about and do alongside our usual timetable. The week started off with us thinking about what wearing a poppy means and doing some poppy artwork. On Tuesday it was Odd Socks Day and we wore odd socks to launch Anti- Bullying Week. We did a circle time on Thursday to help us think about how to be a good friend when we are in school and how to make sure everyone feels welcome.
Finally, on Friday it was Children in Need and the children were very excited to come in clothes that were comfy or were special to them. We spent the morning colouring in Pudsey pictures to celebrate the day. The children have worked hard this week and the staff have been very impressed with their attitude to learning.

A Busy Last Week!
This week we have had lots going on and the children have done a great job at being engaged in their learning right up until the last afternoon of half term!
On Tuesday we had a visit from the fire service, they talked to us about fire alarms and how to check them, showed all the gear they have to wear when they go out to a fire and then we got to see the fire engine! In the fire engine there are lots of tools, ladders and hoses. We got to sit in the fire engine, look at the thermal image camera and have a go with the hose! It was very interesting and lots of fun.
On Thursday afternoon we had a parent come in and talk about being a paramedic and explain everything they have to do as part of their job to help the community. We were shown the paramedic bag that they take when they see patients and saw how they take someone's blood pressure and heart rate. The children had lots of great questions and we found out lots of new information.
Finally, it was also Show Racism the Red Card day at school on Friday and we all wore red. We spoke about because the same and different and how that makes us unique. We then made handprints to represent our individuality.

School Crossing Patrol Visit!
This week we had a visit from Maggie our school Lollipop Lady and learnt that they are actually called School Crossing Patrol People! We also learnt how to cross the road safely if Maggie is not there and how she holds her arms and STOP sign to make the cars stop to let us cross. The children were so excited to see Maggie in school and tell her that they love crossing the road with her. After her visit we have been playing with the STOP sign and traffic lights in the garden to control the bikes as they go around the garden.

Counting Collections
This week it has been great to see the children settle into our maths lessons. Thank you to parents who have sent in number hunt pictures on Tapestry we all really enjoyed sharing where you have spotted numbers in the community.
As part of our maths work we are doing a lesson once a week called 'Counting Collections'. In this lesson we work with a partner, choose a box of items to count, strategize- think about how will will count the items, count the items and then record the number. The children have to work with their partner to communicate their ideas, share their knowledge of number and decide how to record the number in their book. Already the children are really engaged and keen to take part in the lesson, working together to share their understanding of numbers with each other.

People Who Help Us
This week we have been learning about cleaning windows! We discussed that window cleaners come and help us clean windows at our homes and Mr Davie has been cleaning the windows around our classrooms too! We looked at different ways to clean windows and then tested them out ourselves in the garden. We really enjoyed getting the windows messy ready for a good clean! The children did a great job trying out different methods of cleaning- clothes, paint brushes, rollers and a squeegee and they worked together well to clean the windows.

Lots to Learn!
This week we have started our first week of learning and we have been counting to 10 in maths, learning two sounds in phonics 's' and 'a' and started Drawing Club!
In drawing club we read the story 'Not Now Bernard', learn some vocabulary and then drew our own monster, house and food for the monster. The children had lots of great ideas and it was great to hear them discuss and compare their work with each other.
We also stared phonics and the children have all tried their best at learning the sounds and writing them during our phonics sessions.
As well as this we have been thinking a lot about feelings, what zone we are in throughout the day and creating art to represent our feelings.

First Week of School!
It has been a fantastic first week in school for all the children and the teachers have been impressed with the way the children have settled into the routine, played nicely with their friends and taken part in carpet time activities.
This week we have been reading a book called We Can! by Alexandra Strick and we have been discussed all the things we can do in school and at home.
We have also been learning about the PROUD rules and how to do the right thing at school. All the teachers are sure the children will be working hard to get PROUD points this term.
We look forward to starting phonics, maths and Drawing Club next week with the children.
